Logistics

The Meeting will be held at the Main Building of the Russian Academy of Sciences Leninski prospect 32a, about 500m from V.I.Vernadsky Institute and 1500 m from the Moscow State University. Hotel "Orlenok" situated half way between the Conference venue and V.I.Vernadsky Institute is recommended for stay of partisipants during the Conference (single rooms: from 50 to 150$).

Application for participation should be sent by FAX to the Organizing Committee by the April 1,1998.
Second announcement will be issues and distributed in May 1998.
Abstracts are expected to arrive not later than June 30, 1998.

This conference is organized following the charter of International Lunar Exploration Working Group (ILEWG).
In 1994 the first International Lunar Workshop was held in Beatenbegr, Switzerland. Following the Beatenberg Declaration representatives of several space agencies and interested scientists from all over the world established ILEWG. In 1996 the 2nd international Lunar workshop was held in Kyoto, Japan. It was decidein Kyoto that the 3rd meeting will be held in Moscow, and this was confirmed during ILEWG session in Torino, Italy, in October 1997.

The main purpose of the ILEWG is to develop an international strategy for exploration and utilization of the Moon, to conduct communication and coordination of activities of space agencies, institutions ansd individual scientists.


Topics of the Conference


1. Origin and evolution of the Earth-Moon system. Impact of lunar studies on solution of the fundamental problems of geosciences and origin of life.
2. The Moon as a testbed for exploration of the solar system. Establishment of permanent lunar infrastructute. New technology and engineeringrelated to lunar studies.
3. Utilization of lunar resourses including investigation of feasibility of beaming of the solar Power to Earth and use of the lunar 3He.
4. Environmental protection aspects of human expansion to the Moon.

The Conference is open to anyone with interests in lunar exploration and development. Formal sessions at the Conference will be constructed from abstracts submitted by attendees in the topical areas identified above.

Corresponding sessions (working group) will be established. The ILEWG will issue a conference report and concluding statement based on the presentations and their discussion.
